“Shakeela”, starring Richa Chadha, is all set for a theatrical release on Christmas. The makers made the announcement on Monday with the launch of the film’s new poster, which features Chadha draped in a sari, holding a gun.
“This year, Christmas gets hotter. In cinemas,” reads the caption of the poster.
“Shakeela” features award winning actor Richa Chadha as the protagonist adult actor from Kerala who rose to prominence in the 80s and 90s and acted in several adult films in languages spanning Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. She worked in more than 250 films.

Indrajit Lankesh has directed the film. Sammy Nanwani and Sahil Nanwani will be producing the film. Lankesh told Mid-Day, "The Malayalam film circuit was dominated by male actors when Shakeela entered the scene. She rose in popularity as her films would run for 100 days in every centre in south India. The superstars started feeling threatened. Eventually, due to backlash, her films were censored and she had to return her advances to many producers; she had to go back to her one-room apartment. Through the film, we'll show what a woman goes through in a male-dominated industry."
The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ester Noronha, Sheeva Rana, and Malayalam actor Rajeev Pillai. Tripathi will be seen in the role of an over dramatic actor-producer of the 1990s.

The biopic will have a multilingual release. It is the third Bollywood film to have a big screen release after the Centre allowed cinema halls to reopen with safety regulations and 50 percent occupancy. The other two movies to be released are Manoj Bajpayeestarrer Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari and Tillotama Shome's Sir.
Chadha is known for the choice of versatile roles and for portraying them vividly. Her performance as Shakeela would be really new and exciting for her fans to watch.
