MP: 13 YO Arrested For Raping, Killing 9 YO Sister; Mom Held For Covering Crime

In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old boy allegedly raped and murdered his 9-year-old sister. On top of this, the entire incident happened in front of the mother who tried to cover up the crime. The incident happened on April 24 in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district and it was cracked after a few months as the entire family was trying to hide the crime. 

As per the reports, the boy raped his sister after watching pornography on his mother's phone. After the girl was raped, she threatened the boy about revealing everything to their father who was working in Mumbai. This panicked the boy and he strangled his sister to death.  

While the mother was watching all this, she checked if her youngest daughter was still breathing. The boy further strangulated her until she breathed her last in front of her mother. 

Hearing the commotion, two other sisters woke up but never revealed anything to the police. 

The mother and the son are in jail currently. The two sisters were also detained but have now been released. However, police are still not sure whether they were involved in the crime or not.  

The scope of the case 

When the family was interrogated about the death, everyone weaved the same story. They said that the girl died due to a snake bite. Everyone said that the girl was found dead on the ground. They said 'We found the girl lying dead; we think it is either a snake bite or the work of some other poisonous creepy-crawly.'

But a few days later, the autopsy report revealed that the girl was raped and murdered. Still, the family weaved a false story saying some outsider must have done it. 

When the autopsy reports came out, the mother and the son, the prime accused, were the loudest in demanding justice for the girl. Locals even staged a protest for justice.

Rupendra Dhurve, Dabhora’s Sub-divisional Police Officer told Times Of India, “We were doing all we could and interrogated at least 50 suspects. We took DNA samples of 10 suspects but there was no headway in the case."

But none of the DNA samples matched. “It was the boy who convinced his mother and sisters to cover the crime," Dhurve said adding that the boy blackmailed the family by saying, "If he was arrested, it would sully the family’s name."

How was the case solved?

The police, after having no results from the 50 suspects, recreated the crime scene. They realised that it was not easy for anyone to enter the house and leave without being challenged. Dhurve said, “The house is surrounded by a wall that is topped by spikes. There is only one entrance. It seemed difficult for anyone to barge into the house, commit the crime and then leave unchallenged.”

Then the police questioned each of the family members separately. On forcing further, the boy admitted his crime while crying. “There were discrepancies in their statements. When prodded further, it was the main accused, the boy, who first broke down and admitted to the crime,” Dhurve said.

The despair of the father

The 43-year-old father who was unaware of the truth is reeling under the despair of his daughter's death and his entire family being in jail. The father told the media, “She was my youngest and the closest to me. The others in the family don’t talk much, but she was a chatty one and wouldn’t stop talking.”

He further said, “I didn’t know what had happened until the police arrested my son and wife. Neither my wife nor my son had told me anything.”

On July 29, the father visited his son and his wife in the jail. When asked about what they said, the father revealed, "Nothing. They just kept weeping. I went to meet my wife to give her some clothes. But she kept sobbing. All I could say to her was: 'What can I do now?'

He even tried to ask his other daughter about what happened that night. The father quoted his daughter and said, "She said she and her elder sister woke up to go to the toilet and saw their younger sister lying on the ground. They just picked her up and put her on a bed."

Therefore, he alleged that his two daughters were tortured in police custody even though they were not involved in the crime. 

A police official said, “We never imagined nearly the whole family [but for the father] would be involved. That is, in fact, one of the reasons why it took a while to crack this case [the arrests were made...]. It was shocking beyond belief.”

He further added, “How can a mother stand by and watch her little daughter being strangled to death by her son? It’s still difficult to process the things we heard during interrogation.”
