Kolkata Research Student Confronts Stalker, Gets Him Arrested

A 23-year-old student from Kolkata is in news for bravely confronting a 42-year-old man who was clicking her photographs without her consent while they were travelling on a bus. The woman warned him to stop taking her pictures, but when he continued to do so, the woman made sure he was nabbed by the police.

The girl boarded the bus at around 3 pm. She realised that the accused named Jeetu Singh clicking her pictures and went on to confront him. She asked him to show his phone. He denied the accusations and said she was making a huge issue out of nothing and went on to click her pictures without her consent.

The student dialled 100 and then kept the accused engaged all the time ensuring he did not run away. By the time the bus reached the BNR crossing, a West Port police patrol van boarded the bus as it slowed down to pick up passengers, after hearing the commotion, and arrested the accused from the spot, TOI reported

The police have arrested the accused and his phone has been sent for forensic testing. The senior officials praised the girl for her presence of mind and bravery. Further investigation of the case is underway.

In October last year, the nation was shocked by the death of a 21-year-old college student allegedly at hands of her stalker in Ballabgarh. The daylight crime was caught on a CCTV, the footage went viral leading to massive social media outrage.

The girl, who was a final year BCom student, had stepped outside with a female friend after writing an examination when an abduction attempt was made on her. In the video, the men can be seen trying to force the woman inside their vehicle, while her friend tries to resist them. After their attempt to get the girl inside the car fails, one of the men shoots her fatally, before fleeing the scene with his associate. Read more about the case here.
