A 5-year-old Israeli girl was greeted with smiley faces and warm hugs from her teachers and friends after she returned to school almost two months later. Emelia Aloni was held hostage with her 44-year-old mother, Danielle, by Hamas in Nir Oz on October 7. On November 24, the mother-daughter duo was released along with 105 other Israeli civilians as part of the temporary ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel. It is reported by Israeli news organisations that 138 hostages remain captive in Gaza.
A tear-jerking video of the little girl reuniting with her schoolmates is doing the rounds on social media. The girl can be seen greeted with open arms as she makes her way through the front gate. More children can be seen shouting her name as they run out of the classroom. The teachers who greeted her were teary-eyed seeing her joy to be back.

Mother's Message While Hostage
Danielle Aloni, the little girl's mother, wrote a letter to the outside world, seemingly forced by Hamas. She wrote that the two were being treated like "queens" by Hamas while they were hostage. She expressed gratitude for Hamas' "extraordinary humanity" in her deceitful letter.
The letter read, "I sincerely thank you from the depths of my heart for your extraordinary humanity shown towards my daughter. You've treated her like parents, inviting her to your rooms, making her feel that you're not just friends, but true caring loved ones. Kids shouldn't be in prison, but thanks to you and other kind people we met along the way… my daughter considered herself a queen in Gaza.''
Chilling Truth
Soon after their release, Danielle Aloni revealed the harsh truth. ''On October 7, we were brutally kidnapped from our home. Our daughter saw things that children at that age, or at any age, should not see. It was a horror movie — you feel like you want to pinch yourself and wake up from this movie. People can die because their abductors simply decided to murder them.''
During the seven-day ceasefire, images and videos surfaced online in which Hamas militants were waving goodbye to the Israeli hostages while handing them over to the Red Cross. The hostages, especially children oblivious to the danger, were seen waving back. Some social media users pointed out that the terrorists can be heard ordering the hostages to “keep waving.”
