Rekha is one of the most celebrated and loved female actoresses of our industry. Her career has spanned over four decades and she has featured in almost 180 films, but her she has always chosen not to talk about her private life with the press. For her fans she has always been an enigma.
Yaseer Usman attempts to unravel the mystery with his biography of the actress titled aptly 'Rekha: The Untold Story'. Some of the incidents and facts mentioned in the book are shocking. For example, it is revealed that at the young age of 14, during the shooting of the film Anjana Safar, a shot where the actress was supposed to kiss the lead actor Biswajeet was filmed, without taking her consent previously. Even as the director said action and Biswajeet proceeded to kiss Rekha who was to stunned to react, the unit members kept whistling and cheering and did absolutely nothing to save her from the humiliation.

"The camera kept rolling; neither was the director ordering 'cut' nor was Biswajeet letting go of her. For all of five minutes, Biswajeet kept kissing Rekha. Unit members were whistling and cheering. Her eyes were tightly shut but they were full of tears.” The biography reads thus, as reported by Indiatimes.
Life for Rekha in the film industry in the late 80’s was never an easy one. People always had an opinion on an actresses' personal as well as married life. For Rekha her married life of 3 months with businessman Mukesh sparked many controversies, wherein rumors of her relationship with Amitabh Bachchan were rife, and Mukesh's suicide became major fodder for newsprint at that time.
The mark of “Sindoor” on Rekha’s head from a shoot which she carried to an event also generated a fair amount of controversy. The occasion was Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's wedding, where the entire industry was present. Her sindoor caused a huge stir in the gathering, and Rekha left soonafter, leaving behind her a trail of questions, which never got answered.
