At 124-Year-Old Woman From Jammu & Kashmir Receives First Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine

Rehtee Begum, who currently lives with her youngest son, is 124 years old as per her ration card.

124-year-old woman vaccinated: A 124-year-old woman from Baramulla district, Jammu &Kashmir, was on Wednesday inoculated in a door-to-door vaccination campaign drive. Rehtee Begum, received the first vaccine jab, as per the Department of Information and Public Relations. She is in good health, as per a medical officer.

DC Baramulla, on its official Twitter handle, tweeted a picture of Rehtee Begum, wife of Late Mohammad Ramzaan Siraj of Shrakwara, during her first dose of the vaccination. “124 Years Old Rehtee Begum of Shrakwara Block Wagoora Baramulla gets her first COVID vaccine jab during door to door vaccination campaign,” read the tweet.

Abdul Rashid Ganie, Block Development Officer Wagoora who led the vaccination team, said the woman’s ration card mentioned her age as 124, The Kashmir Monitor reported.

She was hardly able to walk but could speak well. The family is very poor, Abdul Rashid Ganie said: 124-year-old woman receives first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

According to an NDTV report, Rehtee Begum was among over 9,000 persons who were administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the union territory on Wednesday. And, if the official statement is to be believed, it makes Begum the oldest surviving person in the world.

Speaking to ANI, the Medical Officer at Primary Health Care (PHC) Shrakwara, Dr Tajamul Malik said that if a woman of her age can get vaccinated, then the entire nation should too. "The only way to save yourself from the pandemic is to get vaccinated, and do not believe in rumours. If she can get vaccinated, and be fine after it, I believe that it clears all the rumour," he added. Begum has been living with her youngest son for the past 20 years. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, at present, Kane Tanaka (Japan, born 2 January 1903) is the oldest person living at an age of 118.
