Additional public prosecutor Aruna Pai added that the girl was assaulted and later killed by her uncle and aunt.
The prosecutor also said that the girl’s body was first taken to a private hospital by her uncle and aunt. A postmortem was conducted after the hospital declared her dead. The accused had claimed that the girl had fallen down in the bathroom.
The Antop Hill police had registered an accidental death report (ADR) after recording the family's statements.

Post-mortem reports came the very next day, revealing ligature marks over the girl's neck, indicating the chances of a murder.
Thereafter, the police were quick to add Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Pai added.
The father's plea
These revelations came up as the court was hearing a petition filed by the girl's father. He is a widower and has complained that his daughter was raped before being killed. However, the police did not pay attention his complaint.
The girl’s father’s lawyer said the theory behind his daughter being killed appears too “far-fetched" to be believed.
While responding to these allegations, Pai said, the post-mortem revealed that the girl’s hymen was intact which proves that the allegations are not true.
She also added that a total of eight persons have been booked for the purported murder, which include the uncle and the aunt.
