Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on October 9 at age 86. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also announced a day of mourning on Thursday to honour the legendary industrialist and philanthropist. He will be cremated with full state honours. Tata's mortal remains will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai's Nariman Point from 10 am to 4 pm today (10 October), where people can pay their last respects. The cremation will take place in Worli later in the day.

The national flag will be flown at half-mast across government offices in Maharashtra as a mark of respect. Many events scheduled for the day have been cancelled, as requested by Maha CM. 

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran confirmed the news in a media statement. "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation," he said. The Padma Vibhushan industrialist breathed his last at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, according to reports.

Tributes For 'Bharat Ke Ratan'

The nation senses a poignant void left by Ratan Tata's death. Not only did the visionary leader transform India through his developmental initiatives but also through his far-reaching philanthropic efforts. Tata's relatives informed that his mortal remains will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 10 for people to pay respect. Maharashtra and Jharkhand Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Hemant Soren declared a day of mourning in the states.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a statement that he was extremely pained by the loss of Tata, whom he regarded as a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being. According to reports, Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the last rites on behalf of the PM.
