Rape Survivor Set Ablaze In Unnao, Suffers 80 Percent Burns, Critical

It’s been only a week to the Hyderabad horror that shook the nation and now a rape survivor has been set ablaze in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. According to the reports, the man who was accused of raping the woman a few months ago was out on bail. Thursday morning, he attempted to burn her by dousing her with kerosene in the fields outside the village.

Accused Out On Bail

According to the reports, the accused was imprisoned when the woman filed a complaint a few months back. However, he came out on bail and attempted murdering the girl by dousing her with kerosene in the fields outside the village.  The woman has been referred to Lucknow's KGMU hospital where her condition is said to be critical. She was raped a few months ago and had filed a complaint in March this year, the police said.

Thursday morning, she was on her way to Rai Bareilly for the hearing of the rape case that she had complained about. However, while on her way, the rape accused, along with four others set her ablaze. The police said that three of the five accused have been arrested and teams have also been formed to grab the other two.

“The woman was set ablaze by five people out of which three have been arrested and two are on the run. Teams have been made to nab the other two men,” Unnao SP Vikrant Vir said.

The Woman Had Married One Of The Accused In The Case Last Year

The rape survivor had married one of the prime accused in the case last year, against the wish of their families. However, the couple separated when their families did not approve of their relation. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi blamed the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the law and order situation in the state. “Union Home Minister and UP Chief Minister blatantly lied saying that law and order situation in the state has improved. Seeing such incidents on daily basis is enraging,” Gandhi said in a tweet.

“The woman was set ablaze by five people out of which three have been arrested and two are on the run. Teams have been made to nab the other two men,” Unnao SP Vikrant Vir said.

The Woman Had Made Two Complaints Of Rape Threat

NCP MP Majeed Memon expressed shock over the incident and said that the rape survivor in Unnao has suffered 80% burns and is struggling for life. “She had made two complaints against the threat of rape earlier yet we could not protect her. Pathetic,” Memon tweeted.
