A man in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl by a special court on Wednesday.
The verdict was given by Special judge S N Solanki after the heard the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He sentenced the convict Vijay Thakor to life in prison till his natural death. The crime was committed one last month on November 5.
Rape and Murder Of Gujarat Minor:
According to reports, the prosecution presented the case as the 'rarest of the rare' as the convict, Thakor was also accused of raping a 10-year-old girl and a five-year-old girl in the same area where he assaulted and murder the three-year-old child. The cases took place in Santej village of Gandhinagar district. All the three rape cases were reportedly committed within 10 days of Diwali, Sunit Pandya assistant public prosecutor.
The convict had kidnapped the three-year-old girl before raping and then killing her on the night of November 5. The court found him guilty of relevant offences under the Indian Penal Code. The case was registered at the Santej police and Thakor was reportedly arrested on November 7. The police then filed a chargesheet within eighth days of his arrest. The fast track court gave its judgement in a about two weeks of hearing the case, Pandya said.
CCTV footage, many witness statements, medical reports, forensic report among other things was presented in court as evidence, as per reports. The convict had taken the girl to an isolated place on his vehicle. When the child started crying, the man strangled her to death. The prosecution told court that the convict was addicted of pornographic videos.
Pandya said, "Thakor is also an accused in two rape cases of a five-year-old and a 10-year-old girl, both registered at Santej police station. In both the cases, the police have already filed a chargesheet, and a hearing will commence soon. He is also accused of three loot cases."
