On Friday, October 17, 2020, the Bandra Magistrate Metropolitan Court ordered an FIR on the basis of a complaint filed by fitness trainer and casting director, Munnawarali Sayyed. The complaint accused Ranaut of “creating divisions between communities and spreading communal hatred” through her posts on social media. It further accuses her of defaming Bollywood in her tweets and interviews by calling it as “a hub of nepotism, favouritism, drug addicts, communally-biased people, murderers, etc.”

The complainant alleged that her tweets are creating a communal divide on social media and projecting a bad image of Bollywood in the minds of the people. He also called her out for her controversial tweet in which she compared Mumbai to PoK. The complaint said, “Police Investigation is necessary as to ascertain the real motive behind such hate tweets and who are the people backing such hatred to create communal tensions and sentiments against the government.”
The complainant levied some accusations on Rangoli Chandel also for making “objectionable comments” on social media to “spread communal tension between two religious groups”.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the court ordered an FIR against Ranaut and Chandeli. While issuing the order, metropolitan magistrate Jaydeo Khule had said, “cognizable offence has been committed by the accused. Total allegations are based upon comment on electronic media — Twitter and interviews. The accused used social media like Twitter. The thorough investigation is necessary by the expert… search and seizure is necessary in this case.”
Kangana Ranaut had earlier reacted to the complaint and the FIR. She took to Twitter and wrote, “Pappu sena in Maharashtra seems to be obsessing over me, don’t miss me so much I will be there soon.”
