Ranchi: Rape Survivor Writes To CM Seeking Permission To End Life

Rape Survivor Writes To CM: A 37-year-old rape survivor from Ranchi wrote to Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressing her desire to end her life. She said that the police are shielding her tormentors and there's no other solution she is left with.

“I have knocked on the doors of our justice system but to no avail. I will not continue to live a compromised life if justice is delayed and denied. Hence, I submitted my letter to the office of the chief minister today seeking permission to end my life,” she told TOI after submitting her letter.

The Chief Minister received her letter on Tuesday. Top officials immediately said that they will look into the matter and deal with it in a transparent way, as per a report

More about the survivor

The survivor is a widow and a mother of four. She said in her letter that she filed a police complaint in connection with the crime on February 5 under sections 354, 376(2)(N), 376(2)(F), 417 and 34 of the IPC. According to her,  Safdar Sultan alias Saddam is the main accused while six others as co-accused. She also mentioned that the main accused has applied for anticipatory bail but the court hasn't decided yet. However, neither the main accused nor the co-accused has been arrested so far.

As per her statement, Safdar Sultan is a wealthy man who had committed the crime on the pretext of marrying her over a period of time, Later, he backed out. He had repeatedly tried to intimidate her, claiming that he had bribed the police and reached a compromise with them, she said.

Cases of rape in Jharkhand

A 16-year-old girl was admitted to Hazaribag hospital last year after she was allegedly been raped by five men in Daru, Jharkhand. Three of the accused have been arrested. It all happened when the teen was out to attend nature’s call along with two other girls. At that time, she was reportedly chased by the five accused. While the other two girls escaped, the minor was reportedly captured and allegedly gang-raped.
