Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Rajasthan’s Rajsamand, Kiran Maheshwari passed away last night at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital. She was 59-years-old. She had tested positive for COVID-19 in October. The BJP MLA was shifted to Medanta earlier this month after her health worsened. Maheshwari was also a Member of Parliament from the year 2004-2009 from Udaipur constituency, and a three-time MLA from Rajsamand.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Maheshwari had contracted COVID-19 during October’s municipal corporation elections. She was one of the two election in-charges of the BJP, alongside Churu MLA Rajendra Rathore, for the Kota North Municipal Corporation (KNMC),
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took to Twitter to condole Maheshwari's death. Calling it a personal loss, Birla wrote in his tweet that she "devoted her entire life to serving the society.”
He further added in another tweet,“ I worked with Kiran ji politically and socially for a long time. She was very vocal when it came to the rights of women and underprivileged people. Kiran Ji, who was always ready to help those in need, will always be remembered for her courage and clarity."

Be it as MP, MLA or Cabinet Minister in the Rajasthan Government, she made numerous efforts to work towards the progress of the state and empower the poor as well as marginalised. Condolences to her family. Om Shanti.”

Smriti Irani, the Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Women & Child Development tweeted, “I am shocked to learn about the demise of respected Kiran Maheshwari Ji. As the National President of BJPMahilaMorcha, former General Minister and MLA. Kiran Ji selflessly served the organisation and society. May her soul rest in peace and give strength to family in this hour of grief.”

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje wrote in her tweet, “ I am shocked to hear the news of the untimely demise of former minister and Rajsamand MLA Smt Kiran Maheshwari. Kiran Saying goodbye like this is a personal loss not only for the BJP family but also for me. Provide peace to the departed soul and support to the family.”

Maheshwari's last rites will be performed in Udaipur after her mortal remains are brought down to the city on Monday.
