Delhi Dalit Girl Rape Case: The National Commission for Protection of Children's Rights ( NCPCR) issued a notice to Twitter India to delete picture of the Dalit Girl who was allegedly raped and cremated in Delhi.
The picture in question was uploaded by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. It was taken when he had visited the Dalit girl's family in Delhi's Old Nangal village. The picture showed the Congress leader conversing with the parents of the minor girl in a vehicle.
The NCPCR wrote on its Twitter handle, "Revealing the identity of the girl by tweeting a photo of her parents (is) in violation of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act... The NCPCR, taking cognizance of this, has asked Twitter India to issue a notice to Rahul Gandhi and remove the post."
In the notice issued to the Resident Grievance Officer of Twitter India, the child rights protection body said that it was acting on a complaint that the photo reveals the identities of the girl by showing her parents.
The notice mentioned that as per the Juvenile Justice Act and the POSCO Act, it is illegal to disclose the identity of a minor in any form of media. Any information or photograph publish that may in any way reveal the identity of the child is illegal.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandi had individually met the deceased girl's parents. Gandhi had tweeted the image and wrote, "Her parents' tears are saying only one thing - their daughter, the daughter of this country, deserves justice. And I am with them on this path of justice."
The Chief Minister of Delhi had also announced an ex-gratia of ₹ 10 lakh to the grieving family three days after the incident took place.
Earlier this week, a Dalit girl was allegedly cremated by a Priest at a crematorium in Old Nangal village. The girl was just 9-years-old. Her family and other village folks who were seen protesting outside the crematorium had alleged that the girl was gang-raped before getting murdered.
The police had booked the Priest under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including the charges of rape, murder and the ST/SC act. So far, the Delhi Police has not confirmed the cause of the Dalit girl's death.
As per a report by NDTV, the Deputy Commissioner of Police said that the post-mortem was inconclusive and added that the accused will be made to take a lie detector test.
