About A Call To Spy

A Call to Spy had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June last year. It went on to win awards at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the Whistler Film Festival. Thomas wrote in a tweet that Apte, who plays the role of Noor Inayat Khan in the film was her first choice for the role.

The film is inspired by true stories of women who worked as spies in the UK (United Kingdom) Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s Secret Army. The story revolves around the unsung female heroes of World War II, especially the three spies of Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (SOE), who worked to undermine the Nazi regime in France.

According to News 18, Vijay Subramaniam, Director and Head, Content, Amazon Prime Video India, said, "A Call to Spy is a fascinating story of female war-time agents, something which audiences are yet to explore in prominence."

Earlier in an interview, the EVP of Acquisitions and Productions of IFC Films Arianna Bocco said, “It’s rare to find a war movie with one complex female character – let alone three, as in A Call To Spy. We’re thrilled to bring their film the attention it deserves.”

In August this year, it was reported that Noor Inayat Khan, the Indian origin spy whose character Apte essays in A Call To Spy, been honoured with the Blue Plaque in London. She has become the first Indian-origin woman to be bestowed with this honour. The Blue Plaque scheme, run by the English Heritage Charity,  aims at honouring the buildings where notable figures of history lived or worked.
