Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu won the women’s singles title at the Korea Open Superseries in Seoul on Sunday. The stellar shuttler defeats champion Nozomi Okuhara with 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 scoreline in a match that lasted for an hour and 23 minutes.
This is the first time an Indian won the Korea Open. And Sindhu achieves it by beating the shuttler who defeated her just two weeks back in a marathon final at World Championships in Glasgow. In a 56 shot rally—the longest so far Sindhu wins the deciding game 21-18. Both Sindhu and Okuhara did not even give away an inch in the nail-biting game showing high quality badminton skills.
This is the first time an Indian has won the Korea Open.
Sindhu had a tough win but not impossible as Okuhara fought her tilll the the end. In the first match, she saved two game points to win but the Japanese player stormed back in the second one. Then the star shuttler took a big leap in the mid-break of the decider.
This is Sindhu’s second Super Series title after winning the India Open this year.

Earlier, Sindhu smashed down He Bingjiao of China in the semi-finals with a by 21-10, 17-21, 21-16 on Saturday (Sept 16). In the BWF World Ranking, Sindhu is currently ranked at World No.4.
The Korea Open SuperSeries is the seventh tournament of the 2017 BWF Super Series. The tournament went on in SK Handball Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.
She became a silver medalist at the 2017 BWF World Championships when she lost finals to Okuhara. Sindhu won 2016 China Open Superseries Premier, India Open Superseries and Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in this season.
Recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu appointed her as a Group-I officer. He presented Sindhu the appointment letter at a function in Amaravati in July.
