PV Sindhu loses second match at BWF World Tour finals, hopes to move into knockout stage receive a blow: Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu fought hard for survival, but lost her second straight match in Group 'B' at the BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok on Thursday. Sindhu lost 19-21, 13-21 to Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon.
This result comes a day after she lost her Group B opening match against current world number one Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan 21-19, 12-21, 17-21.
Now with two losses in two matches, Sindhu does not qualify for the knockout stage, which means her journey at BWF World Tour finals ends at this stage, even if she wins her last match.
This is Sindhu's second successive defeat against Intanon. She had also crashed out of the Thailand Open after losing to Intanon in the quarter-final clash last week.
Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu, who is the only Indian to win the BWF World Tour Finals, having clinched the prestigious title in 2018, will face off lower-ranked Pornpawee Chochuwong next on Friday.
Owner of a Badminton Academy in Chennai, Sindhu had earlier lost in the YONEX Thailand Open Super 1000 and the Toyota Thailand Open competitions after returning to competitive action after a long gap.
