Badminton champion P.V Sindhu said on Thursday that she will pick and choose tournaments to stay fit for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. She stressed on the importance of mental and physical fitness for athletes and said that it is imperative for them to maintain a 100 percent fitness level. Sindhu is eyeing gold medal at the upcoming 2020 Olympics.

The BWF Qualification Rules
The qualification period for the 2020 Olympics began on 29th April 2019. It will continue up to April 26th, 2020. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) will publish a rankings list on April 30th, 2020. This will be used to allocate spots.
World’s top 15 players in the singles and top 10 players in the doubles must adhere to a new BWF rule. They must play a minimum of 12 out of 15 tournaments of the World Tour, otherwise, they will have to face a penalty.
P.V Sindhu’s Response
According to P.V Sindhu, “each and every tournament is important." She said it is important to be “mentally and physically fit." It is imperative that an athlete maintains his or her “fitness levels and gives your 100 percent." To do so, Sindhu has decided that she will pick and choose tournaments. “Definitely, I will choose tournaments since you have to be injury-free and give 100 percent.”

P.V Sindhu thanked not only the public but also everyone working with her for their support, as well as expressed her determination to win gold at the 2020 Olympics. She said, “I would just take it as blessings and love and support from all, the billions of people of the country and go out there and play at the Olympics in 2020. And definitely, I hope and I wish I will give my best and get the gold.”
Sindhu also felicitated the students of Velammal Nexus Schools who had acomplishments in sports category at national and international levels. They were given scholarships worth 60 lakh.

She recently became the first Indian world champion in August this year, after defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the finals. On Wednesday, P.V Sindhu said that her main aim was to work hard and give her best at Tokyo. “Right now, my focus is on the 2020 Olympic games”, she told reporters in Kerala.
