Punjab Woman Shot Dead For Allegedly Consuming Liquor In Gurdwara

A woman was shot dead for allegedly consuming liquor in a gurdwara in Patiala, Punjab. The 32-year-old woman was shot multiple times by a regular visitor of the gurdwara.

As per the Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma, the woman, identified as Parminder Kaur, was allegedly consuming liquor near the sarovar (holy water tank) in a gurdwara.

Sharma said that when people noticed that the woman was allegedly consuming liquor, she was taken to the manager's office. However, Nirmaljeet Singh Saini was enraged by the incident and shot at her five times.

The accused was sent to 14-day judicial custody. As per the officials, the Saini admitted that he committed the crime in a fit of rage after his religious sentiments were hurt.

Woman Shot Dead In Gurdwara

The senior superintendent of police revealed that Saini fired five rounds at the woman with his licensed revolver. Kaur was taken to the hospital and was declared brought dead by the doctors.

As per reports, another man was also injured in the incident and hospitalised. He is in a stable condition.

The accused, Nirmaljeet Singh Saini was arrested by the police. Officials revealed that Saini is a property dealer with no criminal background. As per the police, it appears that the accused's religious sentiments being hurt led to him shooting and killing the woman.

According to SSP Sharma, the accused five shots, out of which three hit the woman.

SSP Sharma added that the police were investigating what prompted the accused to kill the woman. He added that the police would make a statement after they probed every aspect and scanned CCTV footage.

According to Hindustan Times, eyewitnesses saw the woman get into a physical altercation with a gurdwara attendant. The eyewitnesses claimed that when a gurdwara attendant attempted to stop the woman from consuming alcohol, she broke the bottle and hit him.

The police added that she was taken to gurdwara manager's office when the accused took out his pistol and shot her.

Similar Case

Earlier this year, a pregnant woman was shot at by her neighbour when she objected to loud music being played. The 30-year-old woman suffered a miscarriage.

The accused, Harish shot the woman with an unlicensed pistol owned by his friend Amit. Both were arrested.
