Bangladeshi Student Accuses Professor Of Rape

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to the main accused in the Issewal gangrape case in Ludhiana. The accused, Jagroop Singh, was arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 21-year-woman. She was allegedly raped by ten men on February 9 last year, near Issewal village, about 15 km from Ludhiana.

The woman was reportedly travelling at night from Ludhiana to Issewal village with her friend in a car, which was later stopped by men on three bikes. They were allegedly following them, Superintendent of Police (Investigation) had told the reporters. She was then allegedly dragged out to the banks of Sidwan canal and gangraped by a group of miscreants after holding her and her friend hostage for hours. Notably, police had booked ten unidentified accused and arrested six of them — prime accused Jagroop Singh, who is a private vehicle driver of Jaspal Bangar village and alias including Sadiq Ali of Mukandpur, Nawanshahar, Rupi of Jaspal Bangar village, Surmo of Khanpur village, Uttar Pradesh's Ajay who worked as a driver in a petrol pump, Saif Ali of Dehlon and a juvenile from Jammu and Kashmir, in connection with the gangrape.

According to a report in Amar Ujala, Singh got bail on December 29 even though his DNA samples showing the match of semen on the victim's clothing. The police had also recovered evidence from the mobile phones of the gang members. They are reportedly serial rapists who raped women and took their photos to blackmail them into silence.

The survivor and her friend have earlier claimed that they were being threatened since the accused have got bail. The woman further accused that the relatives of the main accused had visited her house to threaten her. She had later filed a police complaint. Additionally, SSP Charanjeet Singh (Rural) said they will approach the Supreme Court to get the bail cancelled to the main accused.
