Punjab’s State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has declared a ‘pre-board’ examination for all classes from 1 to 12. Earlier, Pre-board examination or prelims were only conducted for classes 5, 8, 10 and 12. According to the Education Department, this decision has been taken to prepare students for their final exams since no regular classes could be held this year due to the pandemic.
The pre-board examination for classes 1-12 are set to begin in state government schools from February 8, 2021. These exams will be preparatory exams before the finals.
As per reports, these exams are also being conducted for all classes so that the final result can be evaluated based on the marks scored in pre-board exams, in case the final exams cannot be carried out as per plan due to the COVID-19 situations.
A spokesperson from the Education Department said, “We are conducting pre-boards not only for board students but for all classes this year. This is just a preparatory exam which will ensure students to undergo an additional revision before their finals.”
While students from classes 1 to 8 will have an option to choose between their medium of giving the examinations online or offline, it is compulsory for students of classes 9 to 12 to report to their allotted centre for the physical exam. Students from class 1 to 8 will be given multiple-choice questions as well as brief answer questions.
Regarding classes 1 to 5, students are directed to learn the entire syllabus whereas, for classes 6 to 12, questions will be asked from the reduced syllabus. Questions will be set according to the new pattern introduced by the Punjab School Education Board, (PSEB) said the Director of the SCERT.
