Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned earlier today, giving a big shock to the Gandhi family, who had reportedly hoped that changing chief ministers would help with the political unrest in the state before the state polls in the next year. Sidhu took to twitter, announcing his resignation and expressed his unhappiness with the ongoing changes being made in the Punjab Congress Cabinet.
Sidhu's resignation comes over a week after Charanjit Singh Channi, who is allegedly close to him, took oath as the new Cheif Minister of Punjab, the first Dalit to hold this position. Channi replaced veteran Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh.
According to the NDTV report, Sidhu was reportedly upset over some cabinet changes made by Channi. Navjot Singh Sidhu was also allegedly ignored in recent appointments, although he is known to be a popular leader.
Sidhu, who took over the position of state Congress President in July, wrote in his letter of resignation to Sonia Gandhi that he can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab.
