Gone are the days when only kids celebrated their birthday with unbridled enthusiasm. These days, a lot of zealous elderly people have started celebrating their birthdays as a way to celebrate life. For instance, Nirupama Bhave from Pune has resolved to mark her 70th birthday by cycling 1,600 km from Pune to Kanyakumari.
This gutsy woman is a retired professor. A biking aficionado since she was 50, she follows a mantra of "keep moving in life".

First cycling expedition
Nirupama undertook her first cycling expedition at the age of 55 when she cycled from Wagah border to Agra. At 69, she went on an expedition to the Everest base camp.

"I was always an adventurous person. After my son cleared his HSC exams, I took him to Kolhapur on a bike," she adds. Preparation is underway for Bhave for her Kanyakumari trip.

Diet Plan
Nirupama's diet during the trip will include milk in the morning. After cycling for an hour, she will have breakfast which will include dates, raisins and boiled eggs.
"For now, I have taken up climbing the tekdis nearby, and walking as much as I can. I even run for 10 km whenever there is a marathon," she says.
It is great to see elderly people are showing a great zest for life and proving that's never too late to do what you always desired to.
