Police are on the lookout for three men who allegedly raped a 21-year-old woman and beat up and tied her male friend to a tree on the outskirts of Pune. The incident occurred on October 3 in the Bopdev Ghat area. Police released the sketches of two of the accused, based on the survivor's statement. The survivor and her friend are undergoing treatment at a government facility called Sassoon General Hospital.

Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Pune Police, said that authorities came to know about the incident around 5 a.m. on October 4 at the hospital. He shared harrowing details of the incident, stating that the accused trio first tied the survivor's friend to a tree, using a shirt and a belt, before taking turns to rape her.
According to an official from the Kondhwa police station, under whose jurisdiction the crime occurred, the incident happened at night, in an isolated place. The police dispatched a forensic team to the crime scene and deployed a dog squad as part to gather evidence and track down the accused.

Ten police teams have been formed to investigate the case. Officials shared three mobile phone numbers—8691999689, 8275200947, and 9307545045—and urged citizens to reach out if they have any information. CCTV footage of the trio near the crime scene has been circulating on social media.

The survivor and her friend are college students and not residents of Pune, police added. The woman is studying event management, while her friend is pursuing a course in chartered accountancy.
