An argument over seating arrangement on a flight turned physical after a woman allegedly attacked her co-passengers and a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable on August 17. The incident happened on a Pune-New Delhi flight at around 7:45 am when the woman, identified as Surekha Singh, started an argument with fellow passengers Aditya and Avintika Borse, who were seated in their allocated seats. Singh, a 44-year-old resident of Pune's Wakad area, reportedly bit a CISF officer when they intervened in the altercation.
Angry Passenger Attacks Airport Security
According to a report in the Bridge Chronicle, Surekha Singh started an argument with Avintika and Aditya Borse over the seating arrangement. She reportedly began physically attacking the Borse siblings even though they were seated in their assigned seats.
The crew of the private airline was forced to intervene. The CISF security was also informed about the unruly passenger. Constables Sonika Pal and Priyanka Reddy tried to diffuse the situation but Singh physically attacked them as well, according to the outlet.
Singh allegedly bit Constable Reddy's hand in a fit of rage, causing an injury. As the situation worsened, the constables had to restrain Singh and finally remove her and her husband from the flight. CISF Reddy filed a complaint with the airport police.
A CISF personnel told the Times of India, "After her altercation with the co-passengers, the pilot refused to fly with her, prompting the airline to seek our help as she grew more violent." She was reportedly held by the airport police but later released.
Singh and her husband were travelling to New Delhi for a relative's funeral. Senior inspector Ajay Sankeshwari remarked, "She seemed to be in extreme distress due to a personal emergency." She was let go after issuing a notice to join the probe as and when required.
