A 29-year-old police constable identified as Pooja Dattatray Kamble was found hanging in her house in the Dhanakawadi area of Pune. The constable died on the day when she and her family celebrated their eight-month-old child's birthday.
Kamble was reportedly posted at Daund Police Station in Pune Rural jurisdiction. "The deceased was married. On Sunday evening, the family celebrated the eight-month birthday of her baby after which Kamble went to her room. Later, on noticing her absence, Kamble’s husband went to check on her. Around 10 pm they found her hanging on a sari," Assistant Commissioner of Police Sushma Chavan said. The woman was pronounced brought dead.
The ACP added that the initial investigation of Kamble's death is pointing towards suicide. However, the police have not found any suicide as of yet.
"We will be speaking to the family members about the events leading to her death and possible reasons that may have led to her taking the extreme step,” ACP Chavan said.
Lately, many cases of suicide among cops has been reported in Pune. 28-year-old Shraddha Jaybhaye posted at Pune City Police was also found hanging in her house in Wakad in the first week of July this year. Army ex-serviceman Rajesh Mahajan who was working as Assistant Sub-Inspector with Pune had allegedly died by suicide on August 30 in the Hadapsar area.
Another constable named Razak Maneri posted at Pune Rural Police was found dead at his home on June 24 in Bhor Taluka. The constable was reportedly 25-years-old.
