Suspecting his wife's infidelity, a man in Pune allegedly 'locked' her genitals shut and brutally assaulted her on May 11, officials of the Wakad Police Station in Pimpri-Chinchwad said. Upendra Hudake, a Nepali national residing in India, reportedly cut two holes and fixed screws and a small lock on her genitals. He came home late at night, heavily drunk, and assaulted his 28-year-old wife, police told the media. The 30-year-old man has been arrested, while the survivor has undergone emergency surgery in a local hospital. Her condition is now described as 'stable', reports said.
Investigating Officer Balaji Mete of Wakad Police Station told the media agency Indo-Asian News Service on May 17, "The couple hails from a village in Nepal. They had come to Pune in early May to look for employment and were living with Upendra Hudake's sister and her family near Wakad.”
Brutal Assault On Wife
Upendra Hudake came home heavily inebriated on the night of May 11 and began abusing and assaulting his wife, police said. He threatened her with a kitchen knife and accused her of having an affair. When she denied it, Hudake began beating her and then reportedly tied her up using a stole.
In a graphic turn of events, Hudake then proceeded to cut holes in her genitals using a sharp blade, insert iron screws, and affix a small brass lock on it. He then threw away the key and left his wife bleeding and screaming for help. Hearing the commotion, a neighbour rushed to the house and called for help.
The investigating officer Balaji Mete said that the woman was then rushed to a hospital where she underwent emergency surgery to remove the foreign objects from her genitals. He added that five days later, on May 16, the woman filed a complaint against her husband at the Wakad Police Station.
IO Mete told the news agency IANS, “We took immediate cognisance of the brutal crime and arrested the accused Hudake. He was produced before a Wakad Court which has given him two weeks' magisterial custody."
Upendra Hudake has been charged under IPC Section 323, and 506(2) among others.
