The man identified as a 40-year-old man named Sandeep Jagdish Pardeshi of Warje Malwadi had been teaching dance to the four-year-old daughter of a business owner couple in the Hinjewadi area of Pune district. The couple had found him through an online search and he had been coming to their house since February 15 between 6 to 7 pm every day, according to police. The woman of the family filed a complaint against Pardeshi as she accused him of sexually harassing the 18-year-old guest who had been staying with them.
What were the allegations?
The 18-year-old woman who came from Patna had been staying with the family as a guest. She alleged that Pardeshi used to call her in the bathroom asking for talcum powder and then used to harass her,sub-inspector Ravindra Muddal said.
He added that the woman revealed the incident of the past day to her hosts on May 4. It was when the hosts decided to catch Pardeshi red-handed. "The complainant, in whose house the girl was living, asked the teacher to not come on May 5 and spoke with the girl. On May 6, they decided to catch him in the act," the sub-inspector said.
On May 6, Pardeshi went into the bathroom and kept the door ajar. He asked for the teenage woman to bring him talcum powder again and instead of the survivor, the complainant woman opened the door and found Pardeshi in a compromising state, the police said.
The accused man allegedly ran away from the house after that and was arrested by police on Thursday. He has been charged under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
