The attack on the Indian Embassy in San Francisco by Khalistani sympathisers was denounced by the US as 'unacceptable'.This happened a day after pro-Khalistan protestors burst through security barricades to install two Khalistani flags within the Consulate premises. Videos of the protest show us that a large graffiti with the words 'Free Amritpal' was also spray-painted on the outside wall of the San Francisco skyscraper. Protesters who invaded the Consulate grounds used iron rods to smash the entrance and glass.

Pro-Khalistan Protest In US: Government’s Response

  1.  On vandalism John Kirby, the White House's National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications stated, ‘Such vandalism is simply unacceptable.’
  2. In an interview with reporters, he stated that the State Department's diplomatic security agency is collaborating with local authorities to conduct an investigation.
  3. Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden's National Security Adviser, also denounced the attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco and stated that The United States is committed to the safety and security of the facilities as well as the diplomats who work within them.
  4. The State Department also denounced the incident in a statement. 'The United States strongly condemns Sunday's attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. 'Violence against diplomatic installations within the United States is a criminal offence,' it stated.
  5. 'We commit to protect the safety and security of these facilities, as well as the diplomats who operate within them,' said a representative for the US State Department.
  6. The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum also condemned the attacks, saying that 'violence and vandalism will not be accepted or tolerated.' It requested that local authorities take appropriate action against the assailants.
  7. The Indian diaspora in San Francisco has urged local police and law enforcement officials to take prompt and appropriate action against the perpetrators of the attack.
  8. Ajay Jain Bhutoria, a community leader, stated that while everyone has the right to demonstrate peacefully, violence, threats, and abuse have no place in society and are unacceptable.
  9. Protests by Khalistani sympathisers were also reported in the United Kingdom.
  10. Supporters of Khalistan demonstrated outside the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom, waving flags, and holding posters of separatist leader Amritpal Singh.
