Commissioner of Police Dhruva Kant Thakur reportedly ordered a preliminary probe against the policewomen seen clicking the selfie with the Congress leader. "I am learning that this photo has distressed Yogi ji (UP CM so much that he wants to take action against these policewomen. If taking a picture with me is a crime, I should also be punished for it. It is not befitting for the government to spoil the careers of these diligent and loyal policewomen," tweeted Priyanka Gandhi.

On October 20, Gandhi was on her way to Agra in Uttar Pradesh to meet the family of a man who died in police custody. At that time she was detained by the police. This is the second time this month that Gandhi has been detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police. After detention, she was taken to Lucknow Police Lines.

The first time she was detained while going to meet the family of the deceased at the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case where the Union Minister's son was accused of mowing down farmers with his SUV.

The Congress party has alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Government was trying to prevent her from visiting the family of Arun Valmiki.

At the time of detention, a group of policewomen approached her and requested a selfie. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Division, was asked to enquire whether the actions of these policewomen amount to any violations of police regulations. Thakur is also expected to take up the decision based on the report filed by DCP.
