Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Demands Justice For Late Hathras Gangrape Survivor
On September 14, four upper-caste men allegedly raped and mutilated a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. She eventually succumbed to her injuries in a Delhi hospital on September 29. The incident has sparked off country-wide protests against the lack of women’s security and caste-based discrimination in India.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has voiced her outrage over the case and shown her support for the late survivor’s family on various occasions. On October 3, she attended a prayer meeting for the survivor at Delhi’s Valmiki Temple. Uttar Pradesh police also detained and manhandled Vadra and her brother, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, when the duo was on their way to Hathras to meet the survivor’s family on October 1. Vadra and Gandhi were finally able to meet the survivor’s family on October 3.
After the meeting, Vadra told the media, "Wherever something wrong happens, we will be there to ensure justice is served. No one can stop us."
