Priyanka Gandhi Demands Disha Ravi's release: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday criticised the arrest of the climate activist Disha Ravi.
Gandhi tweeted in Hindi "people who carry guns are afraid of an unarmed girl." Ravi was arrested by Delhi police over the "toolkit" controversy on social media.
Demanding her release, she said, "Rays of courage and hope are being spread through an unarmed girl," The Congress leader tweeted, using hashtags #ReleaseDishaRavi, #DishaRavi and #IndiaBeingSilenced.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also joined her sister and slammed the government. "India won’t be silenced," he wrote.
Several political leaders criticised Delhi Police for arresting 21-year-old Ravi from Bengaluru and termed her arrest as "unwarranted harassment, unfortunate and shocking." She was arrested for allegedly editing the "toolkit" shared by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg on social media in early February. After Disha Ravi, the Delhi police has also issued a non-bailable warrant against Nikita Jacob, a lawyer and activist based in Mumbai, for allegedly editing the "toolkit" document. Read about Nikita Jacob here.
