She urged POTUS via social media to share AstraZeneca COVID vaccines with India. “My heart breaks. India is suffering from COVID19" and she highlighted that the US ordered about 550 million more vaccines than needed. "@POTUS @WHCOS @SecBlinken @JakeSullivan46 Thx for sharing AstraZeneca worldwide, but the situation in my country is critical. Will you urgently share vaccines w/ India? #vaxlive (sic)," she tweeted on Tuesday.
The global star shared how heartbreaking it was for her to see the critical situation in India, however, her tweet is now facing some backlash with fellow Twitter users calling her effort a tad bit "late".
Others criticised the actor saying, "This tweet was required at least 2 weeks back. You shouldn’t have waited for #VaxLive campaign to tweet for your fellow countrymen." Another Twitter user said, "Good morning. US already agreed to supply the raw materials for vaccine development. This should have been posted yesterday."
Nonetheless, some fans also applauded her for speaking up on the situation and thanked her for her efforts.
Recently, Chopra took to Instagram and urged all to stay at home and get vaccinated. "We’ve all seen the devastating reality of a world without vaccines this past year. They are the only way we can end this pandemic and create a safer and healthier future. I'm proud to join @UNICEF as a vaccine champion this World Immunization Week and encourage you to take action. Please get yourself, your loved ones and your children vaccinated and protected from all diseases," she wrote in the post.
Meanwhile, President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have assured support to India in its fight against the pandemic. Biden announced that the United States is “determined to help India in its time of need” and the White House is supplying oxygen, raw materials for COVID-19 vaccines, critical life-saving drugs and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all the way to India.
