Priyanka Chopra on Bollywood and favouritism: In the thrum of the release of her memoir Unfinished, actor Priyanka Chopra has weighed in on one of the most controversial issues surrounding Bollywood: favouritism. The nepotism debate in the Hindi film industry gained renewed prominence last year in the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

Talking to comedian and host Lilly Singh on her television show A Little Late with Lilly Singh, the actor, who was most recently seen in The White Tiger, said when asked about ever having faced favouritism: "Yeah, actually, I have written about it in my book quite a bit... But I think for people who have a large table, wouldn't it be better if we just start extending the table instead of just monopolising it?"

Chopra, who carved a solo path in Bollywood upon her own merit and has since gone on to work with the biggest names both in India and abroad, is the latest celebrity to vocalise on the issue of nepotism in the industry. The Hindi film industry is built upon a lot of interlinked family lineages that have been accused of giving opportunity to star kids over newcomers.

"The terrible thing about favouritism is... It's okay, everyone wants to take care of their families, right? We all want to take care of our friends and families, create opportunities. I want to do it," said Priyanka Chopra on Bollywood.

The actor's book has been hailed for its candour in reviews coming in. In another incident about a director, she quoted him saying to her once: “Jo bhi ho, chaddiyan dikhni chahiyen. Nahi toh log picture kyon dekhne aayenge?” (Loosely translated: whatever happens, panties should be visible. Otherwise, why would people come to watch the movie?”
