The current rules allow three households to form a festive bubble between December 23 and 27. In Wales, it is restricted to two. The government has been urging people to have a low-key Christmas.
In the interview, Patel also talked about she would not visit her parents during the holidays as they live in another part of the country. Her comment about involving police came in contrast with her statement she gave on BBC Breakfast.

" Any individual that saw any laws being broken would take that upon themselves,' she told BBC Breakfast. If I saw somebody flouting coronavirus regulations and the laws, of course, I would look to inform the police about that. The public are part of this … we do see the public and the police working together, " she said.
