A 21-year-old pregnant woman was severely injured after being set on fire by her mother and brother in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur. Police officials said that the woman’s family had gotten furious after discovering that their unmarried daughter was pregnant. The incident happened in Nawada Khurd village, according to the police, on September 29.
When asked about the identity of the child’s father, the woman didn’t reveal any details to them. Her mother and brother then took her to a forest, sprinkled petrol all over her, and set her on fire.

Some farmers who were passing through the forest spotted the woman and rushed her to a hospital. The doctors there transferred her to a state-run hospital in Meerut.
The woman’s mother and brother have been detained by the police and are being questioned in custody.
With not enough data to determine the actual numbers of honour killings due to the social stigma associated with them, a simple Google search displays an alarming number of honour killings in recent times. The National Crime Records Bureau 2021 report showed that 33 cases of honour killings were registered that year.
Cases Of Honour Killing In Recent Times
Earlier in August, a man in Amritsar, Punjab killed his daughter, tied her body to his motorbike and dragged it through Muchhal village in Jandiala town after she left home for a day without telling her parents. The man confessed to the murder and stated that he "killed her out of pride."
In June, a young couple was murdered in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratanbasai village in Morena district. 18-year-old Shivani Tomar and 21-year-old Radheshyam Tomar were killed and dumped in the Chambal River, which is infested with crocodiles. Investigations revealed that the girl’s father had killed the couple.
In June, a farmer in Tumakura’s Karnataka was arrested for allegedly killing his 17-year-old daughter, identified as Nethravathy, who was in a relationship with a boy from a different community. The family killed her by force-feeding her pesticide to make it look like a suicide. When she refused, they strangulated her and later cremated her body to cover up the murder.
In April, A Tamil Nadu man upset over his son marrying a girl from SC/ST community murdered the newlywed couple in Krishnagiri district. The man also attacked his own mother for inviting the couple to her house. While the couple died on the spot, the elderly woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
