Bangladeshi actor rape case: Five persons were arrested in a case of attempted rape in Bangladesh after a top female actor levelled allegations on social media, local reports said Monday. Businessman Nasir U Mahmood has reportedly been named as the prime accused in the case.
The matter surfaced June 13 when the actor took to social media alleging someone tried to rape and kill her. "I have been a victim of physical abuse... I want justice for this... I am a girl, I am a heroine, before that I am a human. I can't keep quiet," she wrote.
The Daily Star reported Mahmood and others were arrested June 14, after the actor filed a complaint with Savar Police Station. An official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrests.

As per reports, the actor in a press conference later that night spoke further on her allegations, even breaking down on camera. "Nasir U Mahmood, former president of Uttara Club Limited and a businessperson named Omie wanted to rape and murder me," she said as per Dhaka Tribune.
She alleged Mahmood and other men at the club on June 10 tried to force alcohol in her mouth and touched her inappropriately. Despite bringing up the matter with the Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, the actor alleged no action was taken in the case.
A written complaint was reportedly filed at Rupnagar police station but transferred to Savar since the incident happened there. A case was lodged and authorities at Savar arrested the accused, including Mahmood. Investigations are on.
