Bollywood actor Alaya F recently opened up about the influence her single mother, Pooja Bedi, had on her life. Alaya said that her mother taught her the importance of being financially independent. Bedi also told her that getting married before the age of 30, claiming that it would be the "stupidest" thing that she could do. Alaya made her debut in January this year with Nitin Kakkar’s Jawaani Jaaneman, which also starred Saif Ali Khan and Tabu.
In an interview with journalist Rajeev Masand, Alaya said, “When you’re raised by single parents, they are inherently very independent, so they like to pass that on to their children." Bedi, who raised daughter Alaya and son Omar as a single mother, got engaged to Maneck Contractor last year.
Earlier this year, she had ">said in an interview that her children were extremely supportive of all her relationships and now they want her to "get married again" and "settle down". The couple will soon tie the knot.
Alaya further shared her definition of being self-reliant and said that both her parents have "constantly" told her that "you have to be financially independent".
"And in a country where parents usually put pressure on their kids for marriage, my parents are the complete opposite. They’re like ‘Als, if you get married before you’re 30 you’re doing the stupidest thing you’ve done in your life. Focus on your career, focus on your work, focus on building yourself’. That’s been said to me all the time,” said the granddaughter of Kabir Bedi.
Earlier talking about her parents' separation, Alaya told Pinkvilla, “I was 5 years old and I don’t really have that much memory of it. I had memory of years after that. I had a happy childhood and both my parents are still on great terms. They never made me feel that something sad has happened. It was just a divorce and it’s okay.”
