Police shot one of the Assam rape and murder case accused on June 16 after he allegedly tried to escape when he was taken to a forest for locating a hidden phone of another accused of raping and murdering two minor cousin sisters on June 12. It has been reported that the injured accused was admitted to a local hospital immediately.

The Assam rape and murder case that grabbed national attention because of its gruesomeness found its way back to headlines on Thursday after the investigating police shot one of the seven accused late at night on the mentioned day.

Reportedly, the accused, identified as Farijul Rahman was taken to a forest where he had claimed to have hidden a mobile phone of another accused who was arrested in connection with the same case.

Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Prateek Vijay Kumar said, "The police had taken him to the area for a search operation to retrieve the phone." 

The case grabbed major attention after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma showed his eagerness in the case and himself asked the police to track the case faster.
