Broadway actor Marion Ramsey, known for portraying the role of Officer Laverne Hooks in the 1978's hit film series Policy Academy franchise, passed away on Thursday in her Los Angeles home, her agent has announced. She was 73.
"Her passion for performing and sharing her heart with the world was immense," her agent said in a statement. "Marion carried with her kindness and permeating light that instantly filled a room upon her arrival. The dimming of her light is already felt by those who knew her well. We will miss her, and always love her." She is survived by her three brothers.

The Broadway actress and singer had been not well for a few days, Deadline reported. The '80s comedy franchise star, Ramsey was born in Philadelphia and started off her career on the stage. She starred on Bill Cosby's sketch show, Cos and on Hello, Dolly! in 1974. She acted opposite Bette Davis in the musical Miss Moffat, an adaptation of Davis’ classic 1945 film The Corn Is Green. She appeared on The Jeffersons in 1976 and graced the Broadway stage in 1978’s Eubie!

Ramsey's signature role came with Hooks. She played the officer through Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989). Her most memorable roles were on SyFy's cult TV movies Lavalantula (2015) and its 2016 sequel, 2 Lava 2 Lantula!
Ramsey also worked as a singer and songwriter and penned songs for soul singer Pat Hodges and the female group The Sweet Inspirations.
She also did voice work on the animated series Robot Chicken and The Addams Family. Her final acting role was in the 2018 indie film When I Sing.
