Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a huge gathering of more than 2 lakh women in Thrissur, officially marking the start of the BJP's campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The event, named 'Sthree Shakthi Modikk Oppam' (Empower Women with PM Modi), will take place at Thekkinkadu ground and is organized by the Kerala BJP to commend PM Modi for successfully passing the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament.
Expected to attend are women from various backgrounds such as Anganwadi teachers, ASHA(Accredited Social Health Activist) workers, entrepreneurs, artists, MGNREGA(Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and neighbourhood network workers, as well as social and cultural activists. Although it's designed as a women's meeting, the BJP sees it as the official launch of their election campaign in Kerala, a state currently dominated by CPI(M)-led LDF(Left Democratic Front) and Congress-led UDF(United Democratic Front)
What It Means For Women?
The BJP's state leadership has announced that more national leaders will visit Kerala in the coming months to engage with the people ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Thrissur was chosen as the event location because it's one of the constituencies where the BJP aims to perform well in the upcoming elections.
K Surendran, the BJP state chief, stated that women from diverse walks of life, including notable figures like actress-danseuse Shobhana, cricketer Minnu Mani, entrepreneur Beena Kannan, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, and anti-corruption activist Mariyakutty, will participate in the event alongside PM Modi. According to Surendran, PM Modi's visit to Thrissur will be a landmark moment in the political history of Kerala.
He confidently predicted a decline in the political fortunes of both the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF in the state. The BJP aims to make significant political progress in Kerala, and this mass gathering of women in Thrissur is seen as a crucial step in that direction.
Prime Minister's visit to Thrissur is not just about addressing a large group of women; it's a strategic move by the BJP to launch their election campaign in Kerala and make a strong political impact in the state.
While PM Modi's Thrissur event holds the potential to reshape BJP's Kerala strategy, will it really emphasise women's empowerment?
