Another celebrity goes from ‘I am not a feminist’ to ‘If feminism is about equality, I am a feminist.’ American singer, rapper, song-writer and fashion designer, Pharell Williams, who earlier this year said it is not possible for him as a man to be a feminist has been enlightened by several posts and tweets that aimed to explain him that men too could be feminists.
William’s exact words were: “I’ve been asked, am I a feminist? I don’t think it’s possible for me to be that…I’m a man. It makes sense up until a certain point. But what I do is—I do support feminists. I do think there’s injustices. There are inequalities that need to be addressed”: reported TIME.
The singer has often expressed his views on women’s rights. He said that he would love to see a woman run the country and wants to vote for Hilary Clinton next year. At London's O2 Arena this year, he said, "In America, women are paid 77 cents to every dollar. This is the year everything changes. You guys are going to have to start voting different."
Except a song that was released last year called “blurred lines”, whose lyrics were considered offensive by many; William has strayed clear of any sexist allegations. However, his refusal to be termed as a ‘Feminist’ raised many eye-brows earlier this year. But recently, at a Buzzfeed event, when asked if he was a feminist, he said, “If I’m allowed to be. If feminism is a synonym for equality, then, yeah, sure,” according to TIME.
