Creating history with the nomination, Phagnon Konyak will be taking part in the elections set to commence on March 31. Former representive Rano M Shazia was the only woman member of India's Lower House, Lok Sabha from the state of Nagaland. Here’s hoping that this step in the right direction, brings about an initiative to have more women represented from the Northeastern states, and more women are represented in politics in the days to come.

- Phagnon Konyak, the president BJP Mahila Morcha of Nagaland, resides in Kohima Nagaland.
- She did her schooling from Holy Cross Hr Sec School Dimapur and has a degree from the University of Delhi.
- After nearly five decades, Phangnon, is the second woman to represent Nagaland, after five decades since Rano M Shaiza, who was elected to the 6th Lok Sabha in 1977.
- Phangnon is vocal about issues and is seen posting regularly about equality and women empowerment on her Twitter.
- Phagnon's recommendation for the seat was supported by Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader and chief minister Neiphiu Rio, in return for the support extended to the NDPP in the Lok Sabha elections.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has taken to Twitter to congratulate Phangnon stating- “Glad to know Smt. @phangnon is selected by @BJP4India as a candidate for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha. Currently, she is the president, of state Mahila Morcha, @BJP4Nagaland. Wishing the very best to Smt. @phangnon ”
- Phangnon will be representing the state of Nagaland in the biennial elections after almost five decades
- Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland – Yanthungo Patton has also congratulated Konyak on her nomination stating “Heartfelt congratulations to Smti @phangnon, President of @MahilaMNagaland, on being selected as the candidate for the biennial election to the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) from Nagaland. Her candidacy is well deserved, and I wish her the very best!
- Along with Phangnon, BJP have also fielded candidates for Assam and Tripura- recommending Assam BJP Spokesperson, Pabitra Margherita, and Prof. Dr. Manik Saha respectively.
