After Jack Dorsey resigned, Parag Agarwal has been appointed as Twitter's new CEO. Agarwal has been with the company for ten years.
Jack Dorsey has been preparing to step down from his position as CEO in Twitter since last year. The company has been looking for someone to replace him and finally ended up with an in-house candidate, Parag Agarwal. He was previously the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Twitter.
Here are 10 things to know about Twitter's new CEO :
1. Just like another Indian-origin Big Tech CEO - Sundar Pichai of Google, Parag also is an alumnus of IIT. He studied at IIT Bombay.
2. Parag was appointed as CTO of Twitter on March 8, 2018. The CTO before him was Adam Messinger, who left the company in December 2016. His appointment as CTO was announced internally in October 2017.
3. He started his journey on Twitter as an Ads engineer and later got promoted to Distinguished Software Engineer due to his work across revenue and consumer engineering. He was the first-ever Distinguished Software Engineer.
4. Parag has done a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. While he was doing his Ph.D., he was a research intern in big tech firms such as Microsoft, Yahoo!, and AT&T labs.
5. Agarwal had completed his schooling at Atomic Energy Central School in Maharashtra.
6. Parag changed Twitter's image cropping algorithm to rely less on machine learning after users noticed the images on the site cropped out Black people and centred white faces instead.
7. Agarwal is married to Vineeta who is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz leading investments in biology companies.
8. Parag has a son named Ansh who was born on Thanksgiving 2018. He is almost 3 years old now.
9. Mark Zuckerberg and Parag are of the same age i.e. 37 years old, leading Big Tech companies and living the American dream.
10. Parag's work had a huge impact on the re-acceleration of audience growth in 2016 and 2017. He was made the head of Project Bluesky by Jack Dorsey, the previous CEO of Twitter.
