Former AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala officially released from Bengaluru prison on Wednesday. She was serving a four-year jail term in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case.

According to ANI, she was out of jail at 11 am on January 27. Sasikala, who tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru last week. As per protocol, will be discharged on 10th day if she is asymptomatic and free of oxygen support for at least three days, Bangalore Medical College stated.

"All formalities have been completed. She is set free from all legal formalities. She will remain at the hospital as per medical advice," said her advocate Raja Senthoor Pandian to ANI.

Sasikala, the former aid of Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha, was rushed to the hospital after she complained of “severe chest infection”, fever, breathlessness and cough. She tested positive for COVID-19  on January 20. Doctors reportedly said that she is asymptomatic and stable.

According to doctors, her oxygen saturation level was 79 (against the normal of 95 and above) when she was admitted last week. However, later her oxygen saturation was around 98 percent which was being maintained through “around 10 litres of oxygen through NRBM (Non-rebreather mask).” She also has a lung infection and suffers from comorbidities for the disease, such as hypertension, diabetes and hypothyroidism. She’s now being treated as per the coronavirus protocol, said authorities at the Victoria Hospital, where she was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The 63-year-old leader was lodged at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail.
