The New Delhi-Ranchi Rajdhani express carried a single lady passenger to Ranchi which reached its destination during the early hours of Friday. The train started moving after having stranded for several hours at the Daltonganj station due to sit-in protests on tracks. Every other passenger had deboarded the train in favour of a bus-ride to the destination city, as reported by Hindustan Times.
According to reports, a lady passenger refused to take the bus over the train as other passengers on the trip. She chose to reach the destination several hours later. However this was only when the train was allowed to resume its journey.
Out of the 900 passengers, one woman decided to stay put on the train
Around 900 passengers were stuck at the Daltonganj station due to the protests. This was followed by the Tana Bhagat community at Tori railway station in Jharkhand’s Latehar district. The railway officials said that the passenger, reportedly Ananya, was traveling in a B-3 coach. She refused to board one of the buses arranged for the further journey. As per a statement by an official, the woman told them that she would not take a bus in any case. “If she wanted to travel by a bus, why would she have booked a train ticket in the first place?” the official said.
The train arrived at 6:40 am at the station where it was stranded for several hours. Although every other passenger on the express agreed to travel further by the buses arranged by the Palmau district administration, the lady passenger stayed put in the stuck train. The authorities gave in and re-routed the train. For the accompaniment of the passenger, they deployed RPF force and some lady constables.
Finally, the train reached Ranchi via Gaya, Gomo and Bokaro. It covered 535 km instead of the 308 km it would have covered by its original route of Barkakna.
The re-routing was purely on basis of technical reasons, DCM says
However, the Dhanbad senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) AK Pandey denied that the diversion took place at the insistence of the passenger. Reportedly Pandey said, “On the basis of pure technical reasons, the Rajdhani express was allowed to run to Ranchi via GAYA-GMO-BKSC. And the running of empty rakes via the diverted route has nothing to do with the demand of any passenger.”
