Aam Aadmi Party is taking a clear stand that the next Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly will be a woman legislator from the party. Just recently Bandana Kumari resigned from the post and since then some contenders are vying for the job.
“A woman legislator will be made the Deputy Speaker,” said a source close to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to The Hindu.
The top female contenders, one of who might be able to become the Deputy Speaker are, Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba and Palam MLA Bhavna Gaur.

The reason for Kumari’s resignation is attributed to her husband, Sajjan Kumar’s proximity with the BJP leaders of the Shalimar Bagh area. Party workers have claimed that they are not surprised with the resignation given by Kumari as they had anticipated it long before.
However, even after that they are positive about getting a woman to become the Deputy Speaker. Kumari was the only woman in AAP’s cabinet.
Representation of women in the political sphere is a must in today’s scenario when equity has become the basis of everything. Recently, a women’s group asked for a 50persent reservation in state assemblies in Chandigarh. This shows that how women are also eager to create a space for themselves not just in economical but political sphere as well.
