A greater gift for women on the special occasion of Bhai Dooj - Women and girls in Delhi would have free rides on Tuesday, Transport Minister Satyendar Jain announced on Monday. All Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, including AC, non-AC and cluster buses will be available at the service.

“The decision has been taken to allow women and girls travel without any hassle throughout the day to meet their family members and celebrate Bhai Dooj. All formalities have been completed in this regard and relevant orders issued to officials concerned for implementation,” said Mr. Jain, as reported by The Hindu.

However, women passengers won’t be able to travel free on inter-state buses, which are destined to towns beyond NCR, an official statement said.

As the day is not considered as an official holiday, DTC officials are expecting big rush of passengers on Bhai Dooj -- they plan to put more buses on the road, to cater to the rush, according to the report.
Jain also confirmed that all necessary formalities have been charted in and the Regional Managers and Depot Managers will be fully operational in their respective area, while traffic supervisory staffs are on duty as well just to ensure that the commuters find buses easily and timely.

The corporation has a promoted helpline number - 011-23317600 - for enquiries by any passenger on DTC bus routes and other facilities.
