The combined bands travelled a distance of 5,000 miles to perform at the annual series at the Edinburgh Castle, Scotland. The annual series is widely considered to be one of the best military band festivals in the world. The Edinburgh Tattoo, held from August 3-25, featured music performers from more than 48 countries.

Oman’s representatives, the Royal Cavalry of the Sultanate of Oman’s Pipers on horseback, and its all-female marching band participated in the Edinburgh Tattoo for the first time.

Sayyid Haitham, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Culture, was the guest of honour at the show. Sayyid presented the Pooley sword. Presenting the sword is an honour given to the act that made the highest contribution to the event.

The viewers were astounded when the all-female marching band along with the Mounted Pipes and Drums took the stage. Many users shared this key moment on Twitter and appreciated the performance of the bands. Twitter user Fouz bint Fahad wrote, “Stunning and powerful! The all-female marching band of the Royal Cavalry of #Oman travelled to Scotland to perform in The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.”

Another user wrote, "Good to see REFORMS are coming with good pace and for good WOMEN SCALING NEW HEIGHTS LEST! WE DO NOT GET LEFT BEHIND Stunning and powerful! The all-female marching band of the Royal Cavalry of #Oman recently traveled to Scotland to perform in The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo."

While earlier, women in Oman were denied many rights, they are now involved in all aspects of the military organisation. The Oman Royal Cavalry has been open to men and women since the year 2001.
