This year, the Royal Cavalry of Oman's pipers on horseback and its all-female marching band took part in the prestigious Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The all-female marching band and Mounted Pipes and Drums went all the way to Scotland for the programme.
The combined bands travelled a distance of 5,000 miles to perform at the annual series at the Edinburgh Castle, Scotland. The annual series is widely considered to be one of the best military band festivals in the world. The Edinburgh Tattoo, held from August 3-25, featured music performers from more than 48 countries.

Oman’s representatives, the Royal Cavalry of the Sultanate of Oman’s Pipers on horseback, and its all-female marching band participated in the Edinburgh Tattoo for the first time.
Sayyid Haitham, Oman’s Minister of Heritage and Culture, was the guest of honour at the show. Sayyid presented the Pooley sword. Presenting the sword is an honour given to the act that made the highest contribution to the event.

While earlier, women in Oman were denied many rights, they are now involved in all aspects of the military organisation. The Oman Royal Cavalry has been open to men and women since the year 2001.
