Odisha Woman Pushes Her Kids Into Well After Quarrel With Husband Over His Extramarital Affair

Odisha Woman Kills Children: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her two children, both under the age of ten, by pushing them into a well and subsequently making a failed suicide attempt in Raikia of Kandhamal district, Odisha. She allegedly pushed her nine-year-old daughter and five-year-old son into a well after fighting with her husband over some domestic issues, police said.

Reportedly, the woman identified as Bhagyalaxmi Patra. According to local reports, she had regular fights with her husband M Rajesh Patra and after another quarrel on July 16 afternoon, she left the house alone with her son and daughter.

As per OdishaTV, Bhagyalaxmi, a resident of Christian Sahi, reportedly took her two kids out on Friday afternoon after a fight with her husband and then allegedly pushed them into a well which resulted in their death. Conflicting reports have emerged on what the woman did after this drastic act. While some reports suggest that she too jumped into the well in a bid to end her life, a report by Hindustan Times suggest that she locals found her crying near the well.

After a frantic search, her husband Rajesh on Saturday morning located his wife with local police and found out that she was in a critical condition after attempting suicide. However, he was shocked to learn that his wife pushed their two kids into a deep well.

Ae fire service personnel later recovered the drowned bodies. The two children died and the woman was rescued by the locals and rushed to Raikia Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. On receiving information, police reached the spot and began an inquiry into the incident. The woman's condition is stable now, police said she was charged with murder and subsequently arrested.

While the exact reason behind the fight between the couple is still unknown, the police have launched a probe into the incident. The brother of the woman however accused her husband of having extramarital affair. The woman alleged that she was physically tortured and this forced her to take the extreme step.
